Queenie
by Candice Carty-Williams
You NEED! You NEED to read this novel! This novels is the epitome of the woes of intersectionality. Queenie, is a black woman born to a Jamaican family, raised in England with a absent father.
Listen to this intersectional conundrum... imagine being black, Jamaican, unsure on how to be treated by a white world, witness physical violence from your mom’s partner, having an absent dad, very culturally connected Jamaican grandparents, immigrant family with strong stigmas against mental illness, miscarried a child, struggling with your body, unable to cope with stress, dealing with daily racism, dealing with daily micro aggressions, and dealing with a whole slew of WHITE fuckboys who only view your body as a tool and not a prize. Yes, I know. That was longest run-on sentence in the world. But to be honest, who cares.
