So recently i’ve been trying to re-read some of the books I read back when I was in junior high school and I remember this was one of the books that I really liked back then.
Now that I’ve re-read it, I think the writing is still good for a teenlit book (compared to.. ahem, the others) so this book ages well. Although, some parts about this book in today’s climate is probably a bit problematic and questionable especially the way Ronald’s crush works because he, in a nutshell, was stalking a 15 years old girl, taking pics of her from a far (lmao a fansite) and at some point he said “i don’t care what happens, i’ve been in love with her and after all these she WILL have to be my gf.” Like... dude? Calm down. But when I read that part back when I was 15 myself I thought it was sweet that a guy would go through such length for his crush, when in reality, that never happens and even if that happens that’d be creepy as hell.

All in all...
I love the plot and the characters, although I couldn’t care less about this narrative of overprotective boys, but considering the context and the time it was written and published I’m not going to complain about it.
