Wow... um, that was not what I was expecting.

This was such an older book. I was expecting middle grade, and this is definitely more YA. I tried waiting a night to collect my thoughts but they are still very confused. So let's try and break this down a bit.

So I loved this book (if the five stars wasn't a giveaway). It takes place in a world I wanted more of, though the characters I wanted more of weren't there, it made me care for them nonetheless. I liked having a backstory to Lyra.

This book was so much more mature than I thought it would be. I guess that's why it's $30. There were more mature themes and there was even some swear words, which I wasn't expecting. I liked how the CCD was more prominent in the plot than the Magisterium had been in the first book, as the plot of The Golden Compass/Northern Lights relied more on the fact that Rodger was missing, not about the Magisterium.

And I think that's all I can force out coherently. Maybe I'll review this review later.
