Ferals by Jacob Grey

I was all set to like this book. I mean, it has crows in it, my favorite bird. But, on the whole, it was so lackluster.

I've read so many junior fiction books that deal with the whole "kid can talk to animals and must save the world from a horrible threat." It's almost surprising how many of them are out there. While I love other books that fall into this genre, this one didn't add anything new. It was toneless, boring, and didn't leave any kind of impression.

Also, the main character gets waaay too powerful in a short amount of time. Like, he figures out what he is and three days later gains a power that has only been spoken of in legend. And then once that scene is over they barely speak of it again.

I noticed there was a sequel and read the blurb about it and it seems like it's just going to be the first book but with a different villain. Gag.
