Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman
3.0
dark emotional tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No

So don’t get me wrong because of my rating, this book is absolutely petrifying! I don’t recommend reading this before bed because even someone like me who doesn’t get scared easy had a restless night because of this book.

HOWEVER! There were way too many inconsistencies for me to ignore. For example, the story is told from an eight year olds perspective but there is hardly any true perspective of what the child may be feeling (other than the obvious). In most parts it felt like Bella was just narrating whatever was happening and that’s about it. Maybe it’s because my kids are around that age and I don’t think ANY eight year old is as bland as Bella is.

Also, half way through the book I had guessed the ending but I kept hoping it’ll be something else. It wasn’t. It has left me questioning everything and not in a good way.

Lastly, the mother is a horrible human being and the dad is a doormat. I just did not get these characters.

And yet somehow this book is bingable and I know I’m going to be thinking about it for a long long while.
