The Grief of Stones
by Katherine Addison
I adore Katherine Addison's writing. The Grief of Stones has a plot which probably wouldn't interest me much in the hands of any other writer, but it's Addison and I loved it.
This is very much a continuation of The Witness for the Dead, with the same unusual mix of intimate character focus, murder mystery, ghostly occurrences, and day to day bureaucracy. The books are not quite like anything else I have read, and I suspect they're a niche taste within the fantasy genre - but very much a niche I adore.
