Thank you @macmillan.audio @netgalley for a copy of this audiobook. Let me start by saying that this book is dark and gruesome. The book starts with a stand-off at an elementary school and a beloved teacher is shot to death. The current sheriff, Titus, is the first black sheriff and faced with the challenge of this crime plus the town's view on him. 
The story is well told in Titus' perspective as relates to his relationship with his dad, girlfriend, brother and the small town. I love how the book discuss racism, religion besides the crime. This book was just a little too graphic and dark for my liking.
