Storm by Nicola Skinner
3.5

I have an unusual relationship with Nicola Skinner's books. If I'm honest the premises are rarely ones that hugely appeal to me, and I've never yet found one of her books that I wanted to reread.  Even Bloom, which I gave 4.25 stars, is probably not a book I'll pick up a second time.

What keeps bringing me back though is the experience of reading her books. The moment I start, I'm hooked and I think to date I've read each of her books in one sitting. They're a rollercoaster ride full of frankly bizzare happenings and I never know what to expect. The writing is wonderful and the pace perfect to keep me engaged right to the end.

Storm is admittedly my least favourite of her books to date, but it still took me on a ride I wouldn't have wanted to miss. I went into it with no idea of the plot (I'm sure I've read the blurb in the past but had no memory of it when I picked the book off my shelf) and just settled in for the journey. I have to say I didn't like the final few chapters but I think that's personal taste more than a criticism of the book.

Skinner may never become a favourite author of mine, I might never even reread any of her books, but I strongly suspect I will pick up every new release she brings out because there really aren't any other books quite like hers.
