shannonreese 's review for:
Hooked
by Emily McIntire
So I wasn't sure after reading some reviews especially centering around the tik noises of the clock - but omg that was the most heart wrenching part to me! Buckle up readers, this may contain spoilers!
I was super impressed with how the author was able to incorporate Wendy's whole name along with both her brothers names from the OG Disney movie, and the other characters on the side! My initial thoughts was how was this going to make a good story, like how do we manage to fall for a villain but Emily did it and James story had me in a chokehold (pun intended lol!)
The spice and the plot worked perfectly together, in fact the plot has some parts that genuinely I thought knew where they were going, and then blindsided me!
Onto the ratings!
---TURN BACK IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILS! Past this point their may be major spoils-------
-Plot: 8.7/10 the story actually was making sense, even with the theories on the OG Disney version and how the littlest things from the movie were incorporated in the book, it actually made the read even more fun just finding all the "easter eggs" for lack of a better phrase lol. The only thing that dropped the score for me was some things were bleatingly obvious that the characters were naïve to (which by the way, I wish Wendy wasn't painted as so naïve, but I also totally get why and it went with her character.)
-Spice: 10/10 He's tall, he's dark, he's handsome AND he is sometimes unhinged! It hit all the right kinds of spice for me. ;) Liking some of these spice scenes made me remember "oh yeah... I do have daddy issues" LOL!
-Overall: 9.5/10 Minus the like two hiccups where things should have been obvious to some characters based on how they are written as a person, this book was awesome! I can't wait to read more like these!
