Black Buck by Mateo Askaripour
4.0

The fact that I finished this book within 24 hours says a lot. I was enthralled by this book and could not stop reading until the very end. It's more of a literary fiction but also slightly reads as a suspense which I really enjoyed!

In this story we follow Darren, a Starbucks barista, who is presented with the opportunity to work as a salesman for a tech startup in New York. He takes the job and the story really soars from there.
Black Buck is a satire, yet also touches on very real and relevant topics such as gentrification, racism, economic issues and homelessness.

Through out Darren's journey to success, we see him really struggle with his home life and managing his personal relations. We see him lose himself to his work. That was tough because I think we can all relate to him in that way. I loved seeing his character growth in the end.

This debut has such an incredibly unique writing style that really pulls you in from the very start. I can't wait to read more from Askaripour in the future!
