The Fold is a science fiction thriller, part of the Threshold universe and so loosely connected to the first book I read by Peter Clines, 14 (though 14 was far more horror than thriller). Both books can be read as standalones.
I had a really good time with this book. Clines has a chatty writing style which I really enjoy in certain types of science fiction, and reminds me somewhat of both John Scalzi and Dennis E Taylor. He balances this with an ability to write creepy or thrilling scenes which create real tension. The audiobooks are narrated by Ray Porter, easily one of my favourite narrators, and as usual he does a great job.
Following completion of The Fold I straight away bought audio versions of the other two books set in the Threshold universe - a clear sign of how much I loved it. I recommend both of the books by Clines I have read to date and I'm looking forward to reading more.
