Dead of Night
by Emily Goodwin
I didn't enjoy this book. It presented as a romantic fantsy, but I don't think it captured any of it.
The author used simple words to explain things like "magically locked the house" and "vamp speed" a lot and that frustrated me.
Also, in the "romantic" part, we had full sex scense, which I know can be difficult to portray sometimes, but these were mostly boring, or completely skipped.
While we're talking about romance, I didn't feel any form of relationship develop between characters, it was all rather basic. I think more time and effort should have gone into creating feelings and emotions throughout the book.
Another thing I had a problem with, was the amount of times the author used 'and' at the start of a scentance durring conversation. People don't talk like that. I understand she wanted to respond to the whole of what was previously said, but for some reason, it really irritated me the way it was written.
Lastly, we have the terrible final climax. Where the two main characters decide to enter a shop at the same time it was being held up.
I believe the author was trying to create a bond between them, but it just felt lazy. Things were tieing up, but she had to add something else that I don't think added any value to the story.
I don't think I'll be rushing to read any more from this author.
