This is my first time rereading since the movie came out. Although I definitely enjoyed it, pages 200-300 dragged sooooo badly for me. This book did not need to be this long. I loved when we got looks into Rachel and Nick’s relationship, but it’s also like nick how dumb can you be?? The book is outrageous and funny, but at some point the constant and numerous POV changes, the rich characters being pieces of shits, and the long winded descriptions got tiring and a bit annoying. One thing I didn’t remember about this book is all the casual racism…..it’s not meant to be praised, in fact it’s meant to show how casual the rich characters are about being assholes, but it just wasn’t pleasant to read and didn’t feel like it was taken very seriously at times (also a character says the n word once). It doesn’t help that all of the non East Asian characters are servants of some sort. I think I rated this book 4/4.5 stars when I originally read it in 2018, and I can’t help but bring it down to a 3.5 due to the issues above, as well as just being unable to stop comparing it to the movie. The book definitely stands well on its own, but objectively, the movie is better. I will say, the ending had me a bit emotional. I really enjoyed Rachel as a main character and would have preferred if we had more of her POV. Overall, although it had its flaws, I did really enjoy it for the most part and I will be continuing in the series. Also one last point: there is no ethical way of being a billionaire!
