My feelings about this book have changed a lot since I first read it. I still think it’s a wonderfully messy and complicated book full of messy characters who are often terrible people. It feels like an accurate representation of Old Hollywood with all of its issues. It made me forget that these people weren’t real celebrities.

That being said, Monique’s entire plotline is poorly written and executed, including the twist. And Evelyn’s backstory contains a LOT of negative stereotypes about Latine people.

I do think the fandom around this book is most of its problem. It honestly might benefit from fewer people knowing that it’s sapphic. Instead people act like it’s a sapphic romance novel when that’s not in any way correct. And then they latch onto the romance so much that they forget everything else about the book. 

Anyway, this is a good one for messy adult situations and very emotional storylines and the whole Old Hollywood thing, but I would not recommend reading it for the diversity.
