Dread Nation by Justina Ireland

While I enjoyed this book, it has been criticised for the way it has portrayed Native Americans and while I have no right to say whether to say it good or bad rep, I get the criticism and don't think the author note helps calling people who ran industrial schools "well-meaning" when their aim was to Destroy someone else's culture. They not are well meaning when they decide your language and beliefs are lesser. It's a way to weaken and control an enemy.

There's somethings I think were intentional to show historical attitudes and are being set up for Jane to develop into a better person but if that doesn't happen in the span of one book, it's leaves room for it to be seen as acceptable to the reader who never reads the next book.

Hopefully, Ireland fixes this problem in the sequel. I feel invested in the characters.

In my ball park, I'm not sure how I feel about the Asexyal rep in this. Maybe I'm just sick of Ace Side characters.
