I'm not sure if it was the proximity to my real job that kept me from liking this book more, or just the book itself. I admit, this book is one of the first that more accurately shows the realities of being a teacher (not the perfect illustration, but better than most!). The plot was so-so, and some of the characters were ok, but it wasn't a book that has stuck with me since. Just mediocre overall is the best way I can put it.
