I generally enjoyed the plot, although the start was slow. But there were a lot of parts that felt to me (a white person) as very the Man Writes Woman equivalent to White Person Writes Black Person... especially when white women gush over the main character (who is Black) telling her they wish they looked like her. Then the love interest is praised for having “snowwhite skin.” After reading it, I saw some good critiques from POC readers who were also bothered by these things. As much as I wanted to enjoy it, the ending was rushed and unbelievable.
