Blooming Murder (The Marquess of Mortiforde Mysteries Book 1)
by Simon Whaley
I had a lot of fun in reading this entertaining and gripping cosy mystery, the first in a long series I hope.
There are echoes of Agatha Raisin but the author’s style of writing and characters are very original and I loved them.
The plot is full of twists and turns, plenty of moments that made me laugh, and it kept me turning pages as fast as I could.
The setting is lovely and the part concerning the local politics and the rivalry between the two towns for the flower contest is an interesting and entertaining twist.
The mystery is solid, plenty of suspects, and it kept me guessing. I loved the solution.
The character development is excellent: they are likeable and quirky; you cannot help loving Aldermaston and the gang of guerrilla gardener is exhilarating.
This is a good story and, even if I thoroughly enjoyed it, I think that it’s a bit too long comparing to the usual cozy mystery, and some cut would have made it even better.
A highly entertaining and lovely cozy mystery, I hope to read another one in this series soon.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to Simon Whaley and Rachel’s Random Resources for this digital copy, all opinions are mine.
