Paris: The Memoir by Paris Hilton

That’s lukewarm.”

Well, this was a mixed bag and I have mixed feelings about there.

I was in junior high and high school when Paris was at her Y2K peak party girl, wild child, phase. The Simple Life. The DUI and resulting prison stint. The infamous Holy Trinity photo with Spears and Lohan. The Von Dutch hats. The velour track suits. You couldn’t open a pop culture magazine or tv show without her on the weekly rotation. There’s a lot in there that elicit the same reaction as touching wet food in the sink.

The middle section is where she dives into her experience at Provo, and other behaviour reform “schools” for troubled teens. This section felt the most honest, vulnerable, and raw. There’s no doubt these years of her life were horrific and had long term impacts on her.

There’s definitely times in this memoir where she puts on ✨the voice✨ which is part of the character she created for herself and still uses as a shield, which makes me think she’s still not owning up to all of her past. I have no doubt a lot of her success is due to skill, business acumen, and some luck to boot, but this did feel like an attempt to push the brand she cultivated. When she opted to wrap herself back up in her ditz armour of pink, glitter and ✨the voice✨, it made this whole read feel more like Paris the brand, not Paris the person. And maybe that’s the reason for not adoring this, perhaps she’s too far gone into being a commodity versus a human.

If the early 2000s are peak culture for you and you enjoy thumbing through celebrity magazines, this will probably be right up your alley, Paris never misses an opportunity to name drop someone famous throughout her memoir.
