Blood of an Exile
by Brian Naslund
Blood of an Exile started on a huge high note. I found the first few chapters gripping, I was intrigued by Bershad and the nature of his exile. I also quite quickly came to care about his relationship with Rowan.
Unfortunately as the book went on it just ceased to really work for me. On paper the plot should have appealed to me but I didn't feel invested. I didn't care about Ashlyn and actively disliked her relationship with Bershad. If it hadn't been so fast paced I might not have finished the book. That said, there were still moments I liked, secondary characters who interested me and one scene that honestly had me in floods of tears.
Overall I think it's a decent book it just didn't work for me personally. I know other people who have liked it so if it sounds interesting I would suggest at least giving it a try.
