This sapphic portal fantasy follows our protagonist, Jules, who falls into a portal that transports her to another realm where danger meets her at every turn. Jules stumbles upon a group of people who are fighting a rebellion in order to protect the magic-users of this world, and after finding out that she can also do magic, Jules decides to help out in any way she can. Along the way, she meets some lovely characters and the very CUTE leader of the rebellion, Aster. Jules tries to adapt to this strange new world and finds herself falling for Aster despite her desire to return home to her previous life. As the rebellion is met with the full force of the King’s army, Jules must give it her all to protect herself and those who have kept her safe.

I really enjoyed the storyline and all of the fantasy elements. The magic itself was pretty cool and the way it was presented and used in this world was interesting. I did feel like the relationships and the characters themselves could be a little more developed, especially the romance between Jules and Aster. The romance felt so rushed and under developed that the scenes between these two characters didn’t make a whole lot of sense. It almost felt as if there were two separate stories being told, a really cool fantasy and then a spicy romance that takes place in a fantasy realm. There were also tiny plot holes
Jules’ eye suddenly being fixed, why can Jules do magic in the first place, is John also able to do magic because he is also from Earth
that kind of took me out of the reading experience.

This is this author’s debut novel and I can really appreciate the amount of work that went into this, the story is interesting and I really liked the characters. I would love to see more from this author and see how their story creation progresses with this series.

Thank you to the author directly for this E-ARC in exchange for an honest review. *THIS IS PUBLISHED ON MARCH 8TH, 2024.
