I’ve come to the conclusion that I really hate slow books. Like DNF them, hate them.
And these violent delights is slow. And even though I haven’t read the second book, I think they probably could’ve been combined into one book.
Having said that, I did like the setting. It’s Chinese, of course I’m going to like it.
The twist on Romeo and Juliet was nice, not your typical straight up retelling.
But some of the foreign language, without explanation was difficult. And the beast insect thingy was weird and I don’t understand it. I don’t even think the book needed it.
It might be personal preference but I would’ve much preferred it be taken out and the book just be a Chinese retelling in Shanghai in the 1920’s.
I have bought the second book, but I’m torn as to if I’ll read it.
