Witch King
by Martha Wells
An incredibly complicated but beautifully descriptive fantasy set in a faraway land with complex politics, magics and factions. It was odd to be dropped into this world out of nothing, especially since you and the characters have no idea what’s going on. Through flashbacks you manage to catch up with the past, which the author managed to weave into the story in the present, with the future turning into having the previous two meet.
A lot of parts had me trying to piece together what was really meant, mostly because the setting is so established that there is little to no real explanation when certain factions or systems are mentioned. It could get confusing, especially throwing the flashbacks into the mix. I’m still not entirely sure if I managed to interpret everything correctly, but at the same time it was interesting and it kept the story very fast paced since it skipped over simplifying things and jumped straight into the action.
It took me a long time to finish since I couldn’t casually get into the book, but once I really sat down for it I managed to breeze through to the ending. Ziede was my fave ✌️
