The Push
by Ashley Audrain
3.75 —> I liked aspects of this book — including the explorations of how our culture defines women largely as related to motherhood, how not every mother bonds immediately with their child but no one talks about it or PPD, gaslighting, and how family history impacts us knowingly and unknowingly — but I have mostly neutral feelings about it. It’s a simple, mainstream, easy read with quick, punchy chapters. It’s a thriller, yes, but more of a character study overall. It was unsentimental but also devastating.
