Luckiest Girl Alive
by Jessica Knoll
This book really surprised me... first off, I wish I had seen the trigger warnings before reading this in its entirety (gang rape and gun violence), as some scenes caught me by surprise. They are graphic and hard to get through, but from my standpoint, worth it. Secondly, Ani, our main character, is one of the most dynamic characters I have encountered in a book this year. Some might find her unlikeable, but I found myself very intrigued by her past and how it shaped her present-day self. In regards to the Gone Girl comparisons, I just don’t see it. I think only Gillian Flynn can do what Gillian Flynn does best: psychological thrillers with crazy female leads. This one I would classify as more of a suspense novel... so if you decide to read this one, don’t go into it with the Gone Girl mentality.
