A quick little book about a horse-loving girl who lives in California in the late 1800s. She's forced, because of flooding in her town, to attend a girls refining school in San Francisco. Throw in some class conflict, a bit of adventure in Chinatown, a loving family, and some overly-didactic preachyness, and you've pretty much got the book in a nutshell. Good for horse-loving girls ages 7-10.
