“…this is a tale about people who are both what they seem and not what they seem. Simultaneously. A story of contradictions. In other words, it is a story about human beings.”

A memorable, whimsical, and totally riveting book written with a crazy amount of finesse and chock full of strong female characters. Unendingly clever, with thoughtful worldbuilding and a witty narrator (reminiscent of writing from Douglas Adams or Christopher Moore) who regularly breaks the 4th wall with often humorous but sometimes sobering reflections on the complexities of human behavior, existentialism, and storytelling.

Tress is a matter-of-fact, humble, tenacious, unlikely heroine on an absolutely epic and unexpected adventure that starts with a simple love of cups and a simple guy in need of saving. Along the way, we discover her potential and dimension alongside her. On her journey, bravery and stupidity often look the same, the fool is a strange voice of reason, and getting the ocean wet isn’t ideal.

I think this may be sci-fi/fantasy for people who believe they don’t like sci-fi/fantasy. Recommended for fans of The Princess Bride and Good Omens.
