This is the kind of romance that reads like a LitFic crossed with a Jane Austen book. There wasn't really a romance in the traditional sense—there was a great platonic romance, and a very crazy back and forth of friends, but the actual romance was maybe the C or D plot of the story really. Outside of that, this book wrote about grief so well. Some of the lines about it were just so spot on and beautifully done. There were a few things that were oddly written in terms of how the character's spoke or thought, but I chocked it up to it being very British. Though, a lot of it was very quippy and witty a la a Gilmore Girls episode honestly. Overall, the little quirks can absolutely be excused for the incredible story and writing!
