Audiobook. Simply outstanding storyline that I could not stop thinking about and the narrator was powerfully perfect as all of the characters, giving them their own voice in the story. This book reminded me of Groff’s earlier work Fates and Furies (which I loved) and also Sue Monk Kidd’s The Book of Longings — how marginalized women’s role in religion has been and the ideas of what could have been for them and the shape of organized religion today. I am not especially religious, but growing up with a very religious grandmother who attended Mass daily, the Catholic Church has always piqued my curiosity. The story of Marie will stay with me for quite some time.
