The Haunting of Sunshine Girl
by Paige McKenzie
Sunshine and her mother move to Washington when her mom gets a new job: Sunshine expects to deal with being the new girl at school, rainy cold weather, and being away from her friends--she does not expect to be haunted by the ghost of a ten year old girl that her mother can't hear.
I had to read this all in one day because I don't think I could have slept otherwise. Scary and pulse-pounding but with enough humor and realism to ground it and keep the pace taut without being outrageous. Definitely one of the best paranormal thrillers I've read in a long time.
