Reread 7/11/23: I feel like I have a completely different view of this book after reading it for the second time. I remember completely disliking it the first time, but I now disagree with a lot of the complaints I had. At first, I felt like Jude and Cardan seemed like completely different people in this book compared to the first two, but now I think their development throughout the series made a lot of sense and I really appreciated it. I will say that toward the end of the book, I felt like things were moving a bit slowly and my mind drifted a bit while waiting for the final battle to begin, but otherwise, I think this book was a great conclusion to the series. I'm definitely happy I reread it and I bumped my 2-star rating to 4!
Original review 1/13/20: 2 stars
I was hoping to be one of the people who loved this book but unfortunately, it fell short for me. The plot was pretty dull and it didn't have me on the edge of my seat like the first two books did. The characters didn't feel like themselves either. I get that the characters grew throughout the course of the series but Cardan and Jude felt like completely new characters to me. And there weren't nearly as many moments between Jude and Cardan as I was hoping for. Overall I just feel like this book lacked all of the things that made me fall in love with the series in the first place. Disappointing but this series is still one of my favorites.
