Gemina by Jay Kristoff, Amie Kaufman

This story was just as excellent as Illuminae but in different ways. It was an incredibly worth sequel and I had a difficult time putting it down. The story is difficult to discuss without dropping spoilers from this book, and also from Illuminae so I’m just going to rave about the things I liked and hope that it’s either A) enough to spark your interest (if that’s why you’re here), or B) enough for you to want to fan girl with me if you’ve already read it!

The plot was REALLY fast paced. It flowed really well, was easy to follow, and there were plenty of twists and turns that kept me on my toes!! I was pretty impressed by this because I feel like usually in sequels the story feels repetitive or like filler but this book was neither of these things! It was it’s own story that still made sense and connected to book 1 which was a really pleasant surprise. So honestly? Four stars for the fact that there was no second book syndrome here.

Much like Illuminae this book’s biggest asset was it’s CHARACTERS *heart eyes*
I’m 23 and honestly thought I was over the phase where I was introduced to characters that I instantly want to claim as my book boyfriend….and then I met Nik. What a DREAM BOAT. He’s hilarious and dreamy and sweet and wow I’m swooning at the thought of him. I also loved Hannah! She was spunky and fun, and I liked that she was a total independent babe/badass. ELLA. A truly precious lil baby who I want to protect with my entire being even though she does not need me to protect her/she could probably ruin my life in .5 seconds. I even liked all the bad guys because they were like deliciously bad.

Honestly my only issue with this book was that it didn’t hit me the same way Illuminae did. This book was fun and emotional, but in a very different way than Illuminae was. This doesn’t take away from the story and it is in no way a major issue, but it was different which could be good or bad for readers, and unfortunately for ME it was a bit of a letdown (a minor one but still). But that was genuinely just a personal preference, because this book was honestly incredible.
