The Song of Achilles
by Madeline Miller
“He is half my soul, as the poets say.”
What a poetic, beautiful narrative of Achilles and half of his soul, Patroclus. I have never found Greek mythology very accessible before this. I loved the flowery depictions of how Patroclus understood and felt love and connection. I loved his soft heart and his endeavors to lessen pain in those around him. I loved that Achilles saw this and felt the touches of softness rather than leaning into the harsh, dark from his mother, Thetis. (At least until the battle of Troy)
However it may sound in this review, I shed no tears but thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a little hard for me to get into at first. But, after about a third of the way in, I was hooked.
