This always used to be my favorite of the Anne books, but after rereading it for the 20th time, I'm not sure it is my absolute favorite. I still love it, of course, but it is so heart-wrenching to read about the first World War. There is a lot of gloominess in this story. There is humor and fun and romance too though!
Rilla is a fascinating and beautifully developed character. It's so easy to relate to her and her emotional journey.
Walter is another favorite character, because of his beautiful soul and his courage. He is so sensitive and full of dreams.
The writing really pulls you into the story and tears your heart into pieces.
