Salt to the Sea
by Ruta Sepetys
If I could give this book 10 stars I would.
I honestly have nothing bad about this book. This is the story of 4 teens from different countries durig WW2 that somehow get together to escape the Nazis. The format of the books, shorts chapters, shorts sentences, keep the reader at the edge of their seat, especially in the second half of the book.
I love how, even thought WW2 is probably one of the most studied conflict in history, we get to know more about a part we hardly even hear about, that I won't name here not to spoil anyone. I love how despite how crude certain scenes can be, nothing is inappropriate. I love how the author made such extended research to really get the feelings and the facts right. This is still a historical fiction, so yeah there is some romance, but nothing too preeminent.
I love how raw the book was. I love that different point of view, getting the experience of a teenage in such difficult time.
If didn't have to get it back to the library, I might have reopened it just after I closed it. This is one of the most beautifully disturbing books I've ever read. Definitely my favorite this year.
