Finishing & highlighting this book felt important today on International Women’s Day where we celebrate ALL women & girls. Monday’s Not Coming is a devastating & beautifully written YA contemporary fiction novel that highlights many important topics. Most importantly, it highlights the reality of unexplained disappearances of Black girls & our broken system that allows children to fall through the cracks. Told in a nonlinear timeline through the eyes of Monday’s best friend Claudia, we are taken on a very real journey of one girl’s concern for her friend being overlooked & written off by adults she’s supposed to be able to trust as well as by her peers. The ending will blow you away. While this book is a work of fiction, the stories within it are all too real. Celebrating women & girls means supporting, believing, uplifting, & valuing everyone - our BIPOC sisters, trans sisters, & femme sisters. Let’s continue to fight for our rights & for all our voices to be heard.
