After flying through the amazing Lunar Chronicles series, struggling to read Heartless (Nothing against Meyer's writing, it was more that I don't care much about Wonderland), I was happy that Renegades was in my hands and lived up to my own personal hype for it. Before I get to the actual thoughts on the book, I have to say Renegades has some of my favorite cover art ever. Hoping I can get a poster of this at some point, it's that cool.
I have always been a superhero comic fan, and not of boring ones like Superman and Batman, but more along the lines of X-Men, Gen13, etc. Renegades is definitely in the same vein as my favorites. The powers are all interesting. Some are are what you would expect like ice, fire, and the sort, but some really cool ones have been created by Meyer as well. I won't give any away, but some are really awesome like Ruby's.
I really enjoyed this first book and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cool and fun Superhero novel. It has an ending that definitely was a perfect way to leave me in shock, and now I'll be waiting impatiently for the conclusion next year. It was a nice break from a lot of the high fantasy and mythology books/series I read this year. 4.5 out of 10
