They say there is peace in death. But I had never known that to be the case.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
I have been really dragging along with many of my reads. (ADHD-brain makes me a very all-over-the-place mood reader, so sometimes that's just how it be.) But I flew through Queen of Roses! I am not SUPER familiar with the source material/Arthurian legends, but I am a sucker for a good retelling and absolutely loved this one.
I feel like many romantasy books become more romance and less plot and this one was so far from that. I know that more romance is promised from future books, but I love the slow burn of this and that we actually have an interesting dark fantasy plot, with a legitimately badass FMC that doesn't resort to just doing whatever MMC wants once she develops feelings, that takes the forefront.
There are some grammatical issues that interrupted the flow from time to time, but nothing so big that it takes away from my overall enjoyment of the book.
I am so happy that the second book is on Kindle Unlimited and it is definitely a priority of mine (especially with that cliffhanger) after I get through a couple of my TBR and current reads. Overall, love this and highly recommend it and I can't wait for more!
Favorite elements:
-Dark fantasy, borderline elements of horror
-Slow burn enemies to lovers
-Romance not at the forefront, but develops with time
-Morally grey characters
-Strong FMC
-Grumpy x Grumpy-Sunshine
-Arthurian retelling
-FMC and MMC nurse each other to health
-Cliffhanger
His voice was more powerful than the sea. More primordial than the stars. My name was on his lips as he promised unspeakable darkness to any who came between us.
