Some Assembly Required is an autobiography written by Arin Andrews (cowritten by Joshua Lyon), a trans teen, who has been in the spotlight quite a bit in recent years. The memoir is quick and easy going, and sheds light on Andrews' early years and his transition, emotionally and medically. The memoir is set up in a way that easily gives access to language and understanding for those unfamiliar with trans related issues and terminology. While a little methodical, Some Assembly Required is a step in the right direction for visibility and representation in the literary world.

(Note: Arin's experiences are not necessarily indicative of every trans individual. His memoir delves into physical, sexual, and surgical descriptions which do not represent all members of the trans community and those issues are personal. While Arin chose to disclose that information it is not the duty of trans people to discuss it. This memoir outlines a trans experience that is easily digestible for cis people, however I would note that it is important to separate one trans narrative from all trans narratives.)
