A real life, American version of Downton Abbey. To be so wealthy that you could purchase 1000s of acres of land and build this castle in the mountains is mind-boggling. Then to try and make a town that sustains the building and to help those in the area was also interesting to learn about. Finally, the financial realities of running such a monstrosity are met with choices to make while trying to keep things intact for a legacy. What an interesting book to read. The last third struggled with details, but the author does explain that not much was left behind for her to find the reasons and discussions between the parties.
