I really enjoyed A Promise of Peridot. Though I enjoyed it, the pacing of the book was a little frustrating. I felt like it was paced slower than the first book. It was still at a decent pace but I felt like it was a little slow for my liking.

The book focuses on Arwen after the first book's events of Kane betraying her, her mother's death, and finding out that she is the last full-blooded Fae fated to kill King Lazarus and die in the process. The second book's plot is mainly about Arwen and her friends trying to find the Blade of the Sun to vanquish King Lazarus. Other than that, there wasn't much else to the plot. Which is why I rated this installment a four out of five stars.

The book is very character and plot focused. I felt like there was a good mix of the two. The characters all seemed in-character as compared to the first book. There were a few more characters that were introduced in this book that I found interesting, too. Arwen frustrated me a bit in this book though. She pushes everyone who cares for her away, because of the prophecy of being fated to die after conquering and killing Lazarus. I found her ire towards Kane annoying at times, but I can see where she's coming from with her anger towards him. It isn't until about 90% of the book that Arwen's character arc really shines. I wish it were sooner and it didn't take so long, but that redeemed the book (and Arwen's character).

I thoroughly appreciated the dual character POVs between Arwen and Kane. That was a VERY nice touch. I was very interested in Kane's character in the first book, and understanding his thought processes and inner thoughts made me understand him more in this book. I wish the first book had the dual POVs with Kane, but I see why Golden chose to wait until the second book.

All in all, I enjoyed the book and I would recommend it to a friend. Although, I'm not sure if I would read it again. Purely due to the pacing and how frustrating Arwen could be unfortunately. But don't let my review prevent anyone from reading this book/series. I recommend reading the series full-heartedly!
