Lore
by Alexandra Bracken
In Lore, Ancient Greece meets modern day New York. Original and exciting, this book takes the popular Greek deities and gives you the unexpected. Punishment from Zeus sends 9 Greek deities down to earth as a mortal every 7 years. The families descended from Greek Heroes must hunt them and if they land the killing blow, they take their place.
As I said, it was such an original idea. From the very start I was intrigued by the premise of the hunt. The relationship between each House of Heroes was also fascinating. I would happily read prequels about the previous hunts and the relationship between houses.
I felt the pacing was off on this. Some of the solutions felt quite obvious. I spent much of the last section of the book saying come on - it just got a little frustrating. The timing and pacing issues prevented this book being a 5 star for me.
I still enjoyed this book though! It’s a world I’d love to return to. It was refreshing to read something new that used Greek mythology at its core.
