I generally liked this book... but I have some issues with it. And that might be because I think the story itself could be really exceptional - the premise, the science, the characters. I was rooting for Lucía, I wanted to know more about this world that was trying to use alternative energy sources to reverse or stop global warming, pandemics, and had set up unique housing systems where non-blood relatives could cohabitate in a structured way. I am into all of that. 

So I was really excited about the concept, but ultimately, I think the book was too short and too fast. Sometimes faster pacing is fine, I love a fast paced book with more pages, or at least with more world building, and fleshed out characters, but in this case I found it lukewarm. 

It felt somewhat predictable, and maybe it's because this is my genre, but I don't often find myself thinking about layout of plot when reading, but that's what it felt like. Like there was a very traditional diagram of the story arch and the story was going to go there whether it was naturally ready for it or not. The events in the book take place over less than a week, and there are some massive leaps happening that are just too much. 

I got this book for free, but in some ways, I felt too much like it was overtly pulling at my heartstrings in a surgically precise fashion simply to get me to buy more books - and I absolutely love buying books/ebooks, but not if I feel like I'm getting hustled into it. 

The part that gets me, is that I really wanted to love it, because there are just so many good things about it, and I wanted more from it than I got.
