A journey to California isn't as easy as it sounds. Lee's adventure from Georgia to California is one I'll never forget, set against a colorful backdrop of rural countryside, scorching desert, and lush greenery. I enjoyed Lee and her traveling companions as they try to survive through the environment and each other.

I need to know what happens to Lee and her companions in the sequel *runs to the bookstore*

I definitely recommend this novel if you love historical fiction and are patient with the slow progression of the journey. Things do happen (a lot of things happen) that will leave you speechless, sad, and hopeful.
