Kid by Jescie Hall
5.0

If you have not read 'Hawke' by Jescie Hall, I would definitely recommend it. It's not required, but it provides some backstory to 'Kid'. Kid and Hawke are childhood friends who always have each other's backs. We are introduced to Kid in "Hawke" as Hawke's smart mouth wild bestfriend, So, naturally, when Hawke and his new love, Cole, aka Nicole, move to California, Hawke invites Kid to come stay for the summer. In the first few nights Kid is there, he's partying and having a good time until he runs into a mystery, and it's instant love at first sight. As quickly as she appeared, she disappears. To his surprise, the next morning he finds out she is his best friend's girlfriend's sister, Johanna, aka Han. Throughout this book, it's an on-again, off-again situation with Han and Kid. At the same time, they are both dealing with something, whether it's grief, addiction, self-awareness, or trauma. This is a roller coaster ride when it comes to character building and growth. The storytelling is A+.
