This is not a perfect book; the characters tend towards flatness, there is much showing rather than telling. There is too much going on -- Faustian bargains and space aliens masquerading as humans and teenage drama and social media. It's messy.

But so is life. And this book has a heart that makes me not care about any of its flaws. I laughed out loud and I cried (I cried a lot) and I covered the pages in highlighter as I fell in love with the prose.

This book is about what it means to be human, and alien, and how music can bring us both together -- and back to ourselves.
