GOD I love this series.



It’s been so long since I’ve read these, which is just a crime. And it’s weird what your memory can do to books over time. I’ve always felt underwhelmed by this second installment and I remember it being very transitionary into the third book. The only thing I really remembered going in was Clary and Simon’s FRIGGIN’ AWKWARD blink-and-you’ll-miss-it relationship and the big boat scene at the end.

This was so much better than I remembered though! I feel like I noticed a ton more smaller details that I missed the first time, like Valentine’s hair?? Apparently IT’S WHITE/BLONDE?????? I’ve spent a decade thinking it’s black, but WHATEVER. IT’S FINE. And can we talk about Luke? I’ve always loved Luke a lot, but for some reason I found myself loving him even more this time around??? He’s so cute and such a good non-dad to Clary, I have a little Luke crush!! I also loved the little comments Magnus makes to Alec all the time. The subtlety of their relationship is so adorable and I JUST LOVE THEM SO MUCH OKAY?!?!? MALEC IS MY OTP FOREVERRRR!



The brother and sister storyline between Jace and Clary is still freaking weird. I will ALWAYS think that was the most random and cheesy decision Cassie Clare could have made, but I love everything else so much that I don’t even care. And I can’t deny the drama and intrigue it creates. The emo tension between those two is off the charts in this book.

This was even better the second time around!! This series is everything. Two thumbs waaaaay up!
