This second book in the Second Chances series, follows Kate and Jay with the couple from the first book being more in the background. While Casey and Decker's story is very emotionally heart-wrenching, Kate and Jay's seems to be more about trying to protect the person you love from hardship that might come when being associated with you. It isn't until near the end that the heart really starts to break.

Trying to understand Kate's parents was very difficult for me. Being a parent myself, I just can't imagine not supporting my child and just the way they treat her and those around her. Growing up in that environment would have been an anxiety ridden hell hole! Jay's situation is much different, but still a lack of proper parental ties runs deep in this story.

I like the way the story ended up and how the couples both seem to be able to keep up with their friendships.
