I have been having a hard time with the AtoZ challenge this year because there’s not a huge amount of “z” novels that I’m interested in reading. This was one of the most interesting picks from my options.

I did enjoy the majority of this book. Zelda was an interesting woman and but I think she was a little stuck in life. She was kind of lost and really didn’t have direction. She leaps onto the chance to be swept away by F. Scott. Turns out that seeing the world and trying to appear rich is not all it’s cracked up to be.

I really enjoyed the way that Zelda tells her story. I was grabbed into the story and was looking forward to picking it up each time. The pacing of the book is a little slow. There’s so much in the beginning and there are times that it jumps around a lot. Throughout the middle of the book there are some long stretches of the same thing over and over. We then get a rushed ending that was terrible. I hated the ending. It was depressing and really just left me angry.

I don’t really know their story and haven’t looked into it. I would have liked this a lot more if it wasn’t based on real people, I think. I mean, I would still really dislike the ending but the rest would have been better. I don’t know how accurate this is or what’s implied.

Overall, this was just an okay read for me. It’s a bit long, it starts off strong and kind of just goes downhill from there.
