I regularly think of this book in my daily life and use it as a source of hope and a guide for how I think about continuing to live in difficult times. It feels like an accurate picture of what the 'Long Emergency' could be like, and a reflection of discussions of community building and spirituality that I actively see in collapse communities today. Beyond the compelling characters and just being an enjoyable fiction read, this book is an amazing and influential read.
